Lazy days of no updating

So... I finally found myself unlazy enough to make a new post .-. (after some prodding by others ^^;;)

Let's see... We're just about to finish Michiko no Hatchin! One episode left!!! (That of course means the rest have been released if you all haven't noticed - which you probably didn't)...

So since I've been lazy I guess I should give a quick summary of current statuses etc.

Michiko no Hatchin - nearly done! One eppie left, so hopefully that will be finished before the end of August - Yes, I've actually put a date on this one! It has been translated, so I'm hoping stuff won't take so long - especially since it was left on a random-ish kinda cliffhanger - then again most of you probably all gave up and have already seen it ^^;;

Himitsu - Well, it's kinda moving. About 4 episodes or so have been edited, except the poor tl-san got rather busy with real life job of translating, so it's moving slowly... The plan is to try and finish it by the end of August... but that's kinda fading away .-. *shifts the plan to the end of september*

Souten - Is also moving very slowly. Tl-san is rather busy at the moment (same Tl-san who does Himitsu) but we've been told there will be some movement from this direction soon!!!! Let's just hope it's not too many otherwise I might just be crushed under this mountain of work...

So all in all, we're all pretty busy! You'd think summer would be a nice and lazy time... sadly that's so untrue... Among random house moves, working, trying to catch up on sleep - sleep is VERY important - I've found myself not even having enough time to do my favourite hobby... and that is watch the antics of Chi!!!!! Chi is sooooo cute (I highly recommend you all go and watch - Crunchy does online streaming, so now you have no excuse for not watching Chi. As a side note, two animes I did become interested in recently are Saki and Tokyo Magnitude. I totally love these two shows even if they're not the usual action-paced type of shows (not forgetting that Saki has the most amusing overexaggerated action moves). So, if you're looking for something a little different this summer, then why not try those two? I was surprised to find myself liking 'em despite the rather slow start from Saki. And before you ask, yes, Tokyo magnitude does seem to be a show about absolutely nothing - aka nothing seems to happen, but you know, it's surprisingly a sweet and tender story - or at least I think so.

Oh, and I finally got round to finishing Fruit Basket (Thank you TokyoPop for finally publishing Volume 23 over here!) - I wanted a longer ending... but I guess all good things have to come to an end eventually... Similarly, I also finished Godchild (Thank you Viz)... that ending was so sad ;-; I didn't like it at all... but I guess she had to do it that way otherwise it would be a bad ending... *sighs*

So now I finished two of my series, I guess it's time for me to search for some new ones. I had a peek at Rasetsu which seems interest-ish, not sure I will like it though... and there's a random vampire one I might take a look at... Anyone got any good suggestions? :) (Apart from asking Viz to hurry up with their Skipbeat, Vampire Knights and Special A series that is!!!)

Oh, and most finally, let's all wish a Whitecat a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I noticed it when scanning the comments earlier :) So a very happy birthday to you, and hope you have a great day! Make sure you eat lots of cake. As a pressie, here's an eyecatch for you... I wonder if you can figure out who it is...

Edit: or at least when ani gets round to figuring out how I borked his upload image button...

I'm sorry to say that, but is there any sense to fansub a serie with a release of one episode each four or five months? In Himitsu case, you actually broke an arc of three episodes, thus damaging the story. No updates, no further information and an eternal "check". I like very much your translations, but at the moment you don't seem a reliable group. Of what use are faultless translations if it takes YEARS to see a serie of twenty-and-odd episodes?
Please reconsider and let us end Himitsu at least.

@ hana-bi:

Probably not? Unfortunately, we all need to eat etc., which involves going to work and earning money etc., which isn't the easiest thing (especially with the whole yay! recession). And if we're not doing that, we attend school etc. in order to prepare ourselves for the real world, so when certain people in certain positions get busy you get nice stall periods .-. Of course, we could just announce a drop which won't leave you waiting for subs, but we mainly sub to please ourselves (just in case you hadn't noticed - it's like a hobby)

Status page does get updated - and if you look, all the remaining episodes are in QC. (Unfortunately, now all the QC people are busy like anything :( )

We weren't intending to break your enjoyment of the series by making you wait forever on 3-parters, so we'll keep that in mind and avoid releasing single episodes of linked episodes, mayhaps...

@ Noura: We were planning to mass release them all in October (which kinda failed) since QC peeps have all disappeared to busy land >.<. I'll probably poke this more once I have more free time in my life which isn't at this precise moment since work is killing me :(

All in all, we'll try to move a little faster, but at the end of the day, this is a hobby not a service. We don't get paid for this and when real life interferes, real life wins. On the other hand, now we have online streaming of anime, we can all soon retire into laziness <3~

(Tidbit from the grapevine: Episode 19 and 20 might make it out soon :o)

I'm a fansubber myself, and aged too, thus I know perfectly well that this is a hobby and we have a real life and so on. In fact I am the Italian translator of Himitsu serie, and obviously I feel responsibile for Italian fans of this anime that are waiting endlessly for the end of this troubled work...
So I don't need a remind of how the things work.
It seemed to me that, after months of patient and silent waiting, I could frankly tell you that this delay is far too excessive, and I am very glad to know that you have taken my post into account. Hobby or not, we must take responsibility for what we do (nobody forced us to start this job). Was it not my right to tell you that I am grateful for what you did, but for the future (and the present) I'm forced to abandon your projects with the exception of Himitsu (because you are the only source), and that's because I cannot rely on  your ability to end a project in a reasonable time?
That's a pity. And I'm really deeply sorry, for you and me as well. I was not happy writing the post above. I know it hurts. I'm hurt, too. But the situation is this. I ask you, with deepest respect for your real life, to put an effort in ending at least this years-long project.
Thank you.

I have to say, I really despise people like you Hana-bi (if I understood what you said correctly).
You are without any official deal (as I am told by Ishie at least) vulturing Animandas subs for your own releases in Italian, am I reading this right?
And yet you have the stomach to complain when they are moving slowly, when in fact all you are doing is stealing their work because you can't get your own Japanese translator. It's not like they have any responsibility towards anyone whatsoever - they can sub what they want and take the time they want or even drop if they so desire. It is a hobby after all!
Not only do you not respect the fact that the people working on this project actually have a life that (as it should) takes higher priority than fansubbing, leading to delays, you also seem to think that they have an obligation to YOU - the substealer - to ignore their other commitments and work faster just so you can get your italian subs out faster?

Can you be more self centered and ignorant? No matter your attempts to disguise it as a polite request, had I been Ishie you'd been banned straight away from tracker/site/IRC and whatever I could. But, luckily for you, she is much nicer than me.

Perhaps not remind, but shed some light on the differences between our two approaches. From what you've posted, you seem to feel a sense of duty to provide "reasonable" updates to a series, whereas for us, we just want to do the series and do things at our own pace. There's a reason why many of our series are not mainstream. Okay, Death Note doesn't count but during that era the releases were practically weekly so...

It's pretty irresponsible to blame us for your inability to provide things in a reasonable time to your fans. And no, it's not your right to tell us that you don't want to use our subs. Heck, I didn't even know our subs were being used. In the first place, isn't there an etiquette for foreign subbers to ask for or at least inform the original group that they are going to use their subs? I've seen other groups get asked, and it's common practice for the manga side of things. Maybe, just maybe, we would've worked harder to provide himitsu in a timely fashion if we knew other groups required our subs (okay, I lied).

Finally, no, as far as I know, our group isn't hurt from your post. I'm pretty sure we've made it quite clear before from earlier releases and past history that we worked on things at our own pace. Regardless of the post, himitsu will be out whenever it will be out and your post won't really affect how fast we release it (Okay, I lied again, qc might stall it longer cause of your post). :)

Thank you for your kind reply.

Let me point out a single item: I do care very much for the etiquette and I am amazed to see that you act as if I never communicated you my intention of translating your work. Sorry, but you are wrong: I wrote you, and commented previously on Himitsu, stating clearly what I was doing, and you did not mind. But it's true that a very, very long time has passed, and perhaps you forgot it all... :)

As for the rest, insults and threats I'm reading here, they are childish and they don't hurt me, I'm merely disappointed. I was hoping to start a dialogue since I respected you.
Sorry for the past tense.

@__@

Pray who's insulting our threating anyone here?

First of all, Maxie hasn't insulted anyone or threatened anyone. Rather, he was extremely polite and pointing out our group policy.

Well, unless you read this as a threat:

"I'm pretty sure we've made it quite clear before from earlier releases and past history that we worked on things at our own pace. Regardless of the post, himitsu will be out whenever it will be out and your post won't really affect how fast we release it (Okay, I lied again, qc might stall it longer cause of your post). :)" <---

Which means you might want to brush up your skills in discerning when someone is joking online (read most bracketed comments are can most likely be ignored - after all I like to write a lot of random stuff all the time - take now for instance!).

From what I read redbat is merely ranting *pats red*, and since he's not part of animanda I doubt he can ban you from our tracker/irc/whatever - unless he's this sekrat l33t hacker :o!!!!!!!!! Then again, contrary to what redbat writes, he's lovely and wouldn't want to hack us anyway (I hope?).

And whether you asked to use our subs or not, as far as I recall I don't recalled being asked specifically - if you commented on here? Well, I don't read all comments on this site. Regardless, it doesn't matter if you asked us or not. Our policy IS and HAS always being that once our subs are out, we DO NOT CARE what you do with them - as long as you don't sell them on EBAY or similar (which has happened before and is very, very evil of that person). So, I don't care if you are using our subs to translate into whatever language - you don't even have to tell me that you are doing it - saying that, we sub at our own speed (which should've been obvious at the slow pace we did Haruhi!). Heck, we even gave out our typeset files to another group because they asked us if they could use them and our typesetter didn't care, so I doubt we'd be bothered if someone is using our subs for translation purposes. If we were really that bothered, we wouldn't softsub stuff >.>

Speed on a project mainly depends on the translator and staff. If said translator is busy, then tough. Deathnote and Nabari were regular because the translator was free (and was also done by another translator than the one who does himitsu). So, it's impossible to discern whether a project will move slowly or fast (although, a good tip is that the translator who worked on deathnote, nabari, and hatchin will have a steady-ish project - not that we tell anyone who does what project!)

And as for my real life being free? I worked from 7:30am -> 10pm last night as a nice guideline. If you think I'd be coming home to fansub something, then you live in another world to me, especially, if I'm due back at work for 9am.

So simple matter is, I'm sorry if stuff has been slow, but seriously, our lives are very busy sometimes, which is why you get moments of releases and moments of stalling. Now, if we're all happy with this, let's drop the subject and resume our nice jolly lives. El's the only one with the right idea - MORE time should be spent in adoring Chi instead of replying to posts where people get het up for no reason - take a chill pill and watch some Chi!

And hana-bi, if you really want to discuss something IRC is a better option - I don't read the site very much. One thing I would point out, one can drop a hobby at any time. We are by no means OBLIGED or responsible to provide anyone with subs, nor is anyone obliged to watch/use our subs. No gun is being pointed at you, so in that sense your statement earlier is wrong. No one is obliged to do anything. Also, contrary to what most peeps think, we don't care that greatly about download figures, if we did, this project would've been dropped a while ago in favor of something more popular - plus, it def have much faster. Did you not know that speed is everything these days? :p (Atually, a few of our other projects would've been dropped if it was all about figures :P)

Now, everyone should eat some chocolate and watch more Chi!
